Pay with your card

Here we have gathered everything you need to know about how to pay with the card.

In-store

  • What are contactless payments?

Contactless payment means that your card is read when you hold it against the payment terminal instead of swiping or inserting your card.

    NFC symbol

Each card which has this symbol (above) is equipped with the contactless payment feature. This means that whenever you see this symbol on a payment terminal, you can simply hold your card next to the terminal to in order to pay.

However, if your payment exceeds 50 EUR you will be required to enter your PIN code.

  • How can I make a contactless payment?

To make a contactless payment, all you have to do is hold your card against the payment terminal. When you hear a beep, you know that your payment is complete.

You can make contactless payments up to 50 euros without your PIN. For added security, you may sometimes also need to enter your PIN even for smaller amounts.

If you have several cards in your wallet that are also equipped with contactless payment, you must remove the card you want to pay with from the wallet.

  • How can I activate my card for contactless payment?

If your card is equipped with contactless payment, the feature will automatically be activated the first time you pay using chip and PIN in a payment terminal. You can also activate your card by logging in to My Eurocard.

If you would not like to have the feature on your Eurocard, you are welcome to contact our customer service.

  • What is a digital wallet?

A digital wallet can be an app in your mobile phone, a smart watch, a tablet or a computer that keeps track of your cards when you shop in store.

You can choose which of your cards you would prefer to pay with and place this at the top of your digital wallet. But you can always choose which card you want to use as a means of payment.

Online

  • Can I block my card against online purchases?

Yes, if you have one of our private cards, you can block your card against online purchases by logging in to My Eurocard and managing your settings under Card Services / Payment Settings. Business card holders unfortunately do not have the option to fully block their card against online purchases.

Regardless of which card you have, we recommend that you keep the default setting: Purchase securely online.

This means that you will always be able to purchase using your card for subscriptions such as Spotify and Netflix, and websites which have the Mastercard Identity Check. Other online purchases may be declined.

Should your online purchase be declined, you will receive an SMS with instructions how to complete the purchase.

For this to happen, it’s important that you always have your mobile phone at hand and that your mobile number is registered on My Eurocard. Your card will then be activated for online purchases for up to one hour so you can complete your purchase.

As a customer, you are always protected against any unauthorized transactions or withdrawals as long as you have not been negligent with your card and acted within our terms of service.

  • What is Mastercard Identity Check?

Mastercard Identity Check is a global security standard which you can find across many online stores. It allows you to confirm your online purchase through either your online banking codes or a one-time code via SMS.

Contact your bank to find out more about online banking codes.

It is important that you have the correct mobile number registered with us. Log in to My Eurocard to confirm this today.

  • What is the CVC code?

The CVC code is a three-digit code which you will find on the right-hand side of the signature bar on the back of the card. The CVC code is often requested for security reasons when paying on the Internet.

  • My online purchase won’t go through. Why?

We have introduced a new security barrier for online purchases, which means that for some online stores you must first activate your card in order to shop. Although it may appear like you’re having credit card problems, this is simply an anti-fraud measure which we have introduced to help protect our customers.

By providing us with your mobile number, you can enjoy a smoother online shopping experience. We will send you a text message in the event that we block an online payment where the site is deemed to be unsafe.

By replying to the text message, you can activate your card for online purchases for the next hour. The next time you make an online purchase, you can send the text message before you shop to activate your card for online purchases up to one hour.

  • How can I shop securely online with my credit card?

We recommend that you use your Eurocard, and not a bank card attached to your bank account, when you shop online. This means that you can calmly review all card transactions before paying your invoice.

Here are some useful things to keep in mind when shopping securely on the internet:

    • Only ever share your card number, codes or personal information in direct relation to a purchase.
    • The CVC code is shown as a three-digit number on the right-hand side of the signature strip on the back of your card. It is often requested for security reasons when paying on the internet.
    • You can also log in to My Eurocard and choose whether your card should be activated or deactivated for online purchases.
    • Many online stores share information about their online payment security on their website.
    • If you discover any unauthorized purchases or withdrawals on your card, you may need to make a claim.
  • How can I temporarily activate my card for online purchases up to an hour?

Provided that the option "In-store/physical purchases only" is not selected on My Eurocard, you will always be able to pay using your card for subscriptions (e.g. Spotify, Netflix etc.) and in all online stores which are connected to the Mastercard Identity Check.

In other online stores, you may be required to activate your card to shop. The easiest way to do this is by replying to a text message which is automatically sent to you if a purchase is stopped by us. Alternatively, you can log in to My Eurocard to activate your card for online purchases in advance.
